You Can’t Be Passionate About Playing It Safe

“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Nelson Mandela

“You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.”  Maya Angelou

“Playing it safe” may be the excuse we tell ourselves to cover for the fear of being different, doing different, or living different. But the nagging feeling that we are not who we should be, not living the life we are called to, not living with a joy for anything, reminds us that we have the need for dreams, big dreams, and the pursuit of those dreams.

This is not an excuse to abandon loved ones and responsibilities. But rather motivation to choose to be responsible for our own lives, including our own happiness and satisfaction. We do no one any favors by choosing to live below our abilities, below our desires and without passion.

Our passion may be expressed in our work, our families, our hobbies or our volunteer activities. But be passionate somewhere! Why wait? Start today!
