“What is a fear of living? It’s being preeminently afraid of dying. It is not doing what you came here to do, out of timidity and spinelessness. The antidote is to take full responsibility for yourself – for the time you take up and the space you occupy. If you don’t know what you’re here to do, then just do some good.” Maya Angelou
“Whatever you do may seem insignificant to you, but it is most important that you do it.” Mahatma Gandhi
If you cannot decide what you are here to do, do not do nothing. Do something.
Do something in the meantime. Do something that feeds your heart. Do something that reminds you of what you love about yourself. Do something that reminds you that although you may not change the world for everyone, that is not your job. Just do that one thing.
Maybe today that one thing is a smile for the woman who is frustrated and embarrassed that her tired child is making a fuss. Maybe today that one thing is holding the door for someone, or putting yourself out there to participate in a cause you care about. Maybe that one thing is to start one of the “pay it forward” movements by paying for the coffee of the driver behind you.
You cannot do everything but that is not an excuse to do nothing. Do something. You will be so glad you did, because of how it changes you. Then you will find the courage to find your thing, by taking on the responsibility to do something.
What will your something be today?
