Fail Your Way to Satisfaction and Celebration

“Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”  Nelson Mandela

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”  Nelson Mandela

“Do not assume because you have failed, that you are a failure. Do not assume because you have failed that you cannot succeed. Assume that you have failed if you do not get up – that is failure.”  Jan Smith

I get so frustrated when I can’t figure out how to do something. Sometimes I don’t even want to try because I am not sure that I want to deal with the disappointment of failing. Because I know that sometimes you have to fail at something a certain amount of times before you can actually figure out how to do it. Or develop a new skill in order to make it work. Maybe you will have to build a skill and/or muscle mass to achieve success.

Beyond the physical requirements, often it is the mind game that really determines whether we will succeed at the new skill. Not everyone is willing or feels they are able, to keep encouraging themselves to get up over and over again, knowing they will keep failing for quite a while. Because if you are not willing to fail, you’re not willing to succeed.

If you succeeded at everything the first time, you would not appreciate the accomplishment. Satisfaction comes, not even just from succeeding. It comes from the knowledge that you were willing to stick with the skill building. It comes from following after your goal and building the character to get back up, stretching and enhancing your abilities, whether you reach the goal or not.

Honestly, I’d still like to succeed immediately at everything I do. But I am deeply proud and satisfied when I achieve something hard. Something not everyone is willing to work at. Hey, who knew I could learn how to build a website?  🙂

What do you want to work on today? Today’s frustrations can be tomorrows’ celebrations.
