I commonly say that the most insulting thing you could call me is average. We all want to be above average. We love when we see people’s creativity and genius, setting the pace for the rest of us. Many times you’ll hear us saying we wish we had “come up with that” or had the guts to do that or could do (insert something different from the norm).
But we quickly launch into our list of why we could never do that, be that way, wear that, and on and on. So we greatly admire someone who is being true to themselves. AND is a little different then the herd. Especially, the sit and complain about it but never address it, herd.
Don’t worry, I count myself in that crowd sometimes too. But I am working to be in the first group. Sometimes more, sometimes less. And it is scary as h#ll to do that. But not doing it makes me so sad, disgruntled and restless.
It is as much a process as a style but it is definitely a choice first. However, I am getting to an age now where I am able to see that it is much scarier to stay in the place you do not love, not doing what you dream about or believe in.
The regrets for what you did not do, the time you wasted not loving – your life, your children, your family, your job, your calling, yourself will consume you. They will be much heavier than any snarky remark from someone who thinks you should keep your wonderful, colorful, gift-to-the-world self hidden behind a tree.
Walk away from them. Walk toward the real you. Give yourself permission to start dreaming and acting on those dreams again. Laugh, sing, eat, dream, love. Show yourself! We need you. You need you.
