We hear lots of people talking about following dreams. If only.. or when I get.. or I would have… Bla bla bla.
Talk is cheap. And action is scary. Even just thinking about taking the action can be scary. But what is scarier? Getting to the end of your life and realizing you didn’t even try. You also didn’t inspire anyone else to try.
Following your dreams by taking action makes changes. It not only may change your circumstances, it changes who you are. That changes those around you, inspires those around you and irritates those around you. But you are the one that has to live with the choices.
Are you ready? Let’s start with baby steps:
- Take the first step to write down your dreams.
- Take the step to write down what it will take to reach those dreams. What will you have to do? What will you have to stop doing?
- Take a deep breath. Decide to keep walking through the fear.
- Take the step to write down what you are willing to do to make that dream happen.
Choose the dream that you decide you must do, the dream that just won’t let go of you. It just keeps popping up. You are willing to do what it takes to achieve it, and not willing to live without at least trying.
Realize that most people are moving through fear (not without fear) every day. Even the people who have reached success, who have “done it a thousand times” are still walking through the fear. If thinking about it doesn’t make you afraid – it may not be worth leaving your chair.
- Take the first step toward the dream.
- Breathe.
- Take another step. Breathe. Stand up straight, put a smile on your face, and walk forward in the fear.
Don’t worry that you don’t have everything figured out, figure out what you can, leave the rest for the journey. Life changes as you go along anyway. You will have to re-shape and form things as you go. But doesn’t that happen anyway?
Wouldn’t you rather adjust on the way to your dream than on the way to someplace you never wanted to go anyway? Be more afraid that you never tried, never reached, never did anything that wasn’t “comfortable.”

I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear.
