How Do I Know I Can Make It Through Today? I Survived Yesterday.

Sometimes we forget how gritty powerful we are. We forget that we have survived many, many days by now. Stop and figure it out. Really. I’ll wait…

Got your number? Impressive, huh? That is how many times you have gotten up, picked up your life, and kept walking. Through good days and sad days. Crazy days, silly days and meh days. But you made it through 100% of them. How many things can you say you succeeded at 100% of the time? You can count off every one of them as completed, survived or thrived, as successfully finished.

You didn’t know how great you were, did you? You are really getting good at this! I personally have successfully completed over 20,826 days (I even counted leap year days).

Just hearing that number, 20,826 astounds me. It’s huge! Some of those days were pretty awesome. Some of them were really hard work. And quite frankly, some of them had some really awful parts. But knowing I can do this 20,826 times tells me, without a doubt, I can do this again.

It tells me that if I am going through dark days, cold days, tired days, bad days, that other kinds of days are bound to come along. And that I need to celebrate marking each day. Even if it’s one of those days that you can only celebrate finishing that day.

I look back and see days I want to hold close, and those I’d rather not consider. But if I can find something to laugh about each day, that marks that day with a smile. That brings celebration to that day. And it gives me energy to enjoy today.

It gives me strength and encouragement to finish this day well. It tells me that no matter what, I can make it. And it reminds me that I am stronger, grittier, more resilient, tougher than I ever imagined. I am a survivor. And so are you.

Go me! Go you! Keep up the counting baby!
